Hi all,

I'm sending several of my schools a creative writing supplement, but I'm not sure what length is probably most effective and/or acceptable. How should it be presented?

Thank you!

Hi all,

I'm sending several of my schools a creative writing supplement, but I'm not sure what length is probably most effective and/or acceptable. How should it be presented?

What's the medium (short story, poetry, etc.)? That makes a world of difference. ;)

I asked my regional rep about this and she said 1 to 2 pages. Obviously, don't send them every thing you've ever written. If its poetry, one or two poems would do. If it's prose, which is denser...I'd estimate about the length of an ACT/AP Lit Exam passage. Remember: they only have so much time to look at your app.

Oh boy--I'd planned on sending a short story, which is about 5 pages in length, 1.5-spaced. Should I submit an excerpt of a longer story or a 2-page short, short story?

If you think the short story is one of your best works, I would do an excerpt. You can always call admissions and ask what their preferences are, too.
