Creative Writing Undergrad --> Secondary Education?

Is it possible to get an undergrad in Creative Writing, obtain my teachers certification, then go on to teach high school English/Creative Writing? Or should I get an undergrad in English?

Hi Ian,

Know that jobs teaching Secondary English are brutally hard to find. Every wannabe writer in the world figures that they’ll teach English as they write the Great American Novel.

If you do get hired, the odds are overwhelming that it will be English 9, not the plum writing course offered to select Seniors. There’s already a department full of teachers hoping to get that course.

Consider a minor in something that will eventually make your resume more competitive-- maybe literacy or Special Ed???
