Do you have any updates on the best schools for undergraduate programs in creative writing and English? My son is a rising senior. His primary interest is poetry. He thinks he may want to get an advanced degree and teach or go to law school. He has had a fabulous teacher and mentor in high school and is looking for a college where he can get individual attention from and have a relationship with his professors.
Also, any ideas about merit-based scholarships? His GPA is 4.2, SAT I scores of 800 reading, 730 math; SAT subject tests: US history 780, literature 730. He plays varsity soccer and has multiple other activities at school, has been a peer tutor since 7th grade.
Thanks!
The ones that have always stood out to me are Johns Hopkins, Hampshire, Iowa, Kenyon (no creative writing major, but excellent workshops and very strong teaching poets), Williams, Yale.
(caveat: I studied poetry at Williams with Larry Raab and Louise Gluck, who has since moved on)
Can’t improve on @marvin100 's list, it is exactly what I would have said.

Kenyon would be another great school to consider.
Sorry, I meant this parenthetical to come after Williams. I believe Kenyon does have a CW major.

@Lolo68 - My D is an English major at Sewanee and loves the school, especially the English department. Amazing professors and small, challenging, discussion based classes. D is attending summer session and sent me a text two weeks ago thanking me for allowing her to attend a small LAC. D said there are 4 people in her Representative Masterpieces class and they meet in her professor’s office every morning and have tea while discussing literature. She was reflecting on how much she loves the class and how she might not have that type of experience at a larger school. She has had similar experiences with other courses and developed close relationships with her professors.
