Creative Zen

I'm strongly considering getting one in the next month. Has anyone had any positive/negative experiences with it?
And also, should I get the 8GB or the 16GB one?

Memory space in an mp3 player is dependant on your music library. Keep in mind, your music will grow a lot if you get an mp3 player because you will be more interested in getting new music and when you go to college you have some music swaps with your friends.

My best friend and I both bought different creative players. I went through 3 of them in a year. He is still on his first, but after a year it started breaking down on him. He's now at the point where nothing works except the on/off button and the random song button. He can listen to music, but has no choice in what song. Mine just broke down twice and I gave up when the third kept shutting off randomly. I've had an iPod for over 2 years and nothing has happened to it.

Which Creative player did you have?

I had one of these
MP3 Players - ZEN, MuVo, Digital MP3 Player, Accessories
and I got the really small one but it lasted me a while because I just had a couple songs I liked to know really well. Still, I had it for 3+ years and it works fine other than the size thing.
Edit: Haha, a lot of people seem to have had bad experiences but our whole family has the zen I mentioned and it's worked fine- fantastic battery life in my opinion (for example, used it almost 18 hrs straight for plane stuff and you know, stopovers, and only lost one or so bars).

Zen micro. my friend had the zen touch.

The first time I exchanged my bad player the headphone jack was very loose and I would have to hold it in place so I could hear. I thought it was just a defective player. I have a friend whose iPod stopped charging after 2 days so it's not like I thought that iPod never break. I had the same headphone problem with the second player and tried exchanging it one more time. The thrid one would just turn off randomly and had a crappy battery life. I got a second battery but it didn't help anything. At that point I decided to get an iPod.

Creative may have fixed some stuff with their newer players, but I'd say it's best to get an iPod.

my sister had a zen and after like two years the thing just stopped working

"Creative may have fixed some stuff with their newer players, but I'd say it's best to get an iPod."

I wouldn't say that iPod is entirely out of the running for me, but I really hate some of the problems that arise from Apple's proprietary software. A friend of mine had tons of music that she bought on CDs, but not from iTunes, and she could not get it on her iPod. I don't want to waste my time figuring out how to get my music on my mp3 player. If I'm not getting the Zen, I might get one of the iRivers or the Cowons.

I've had no problems getting music from my old CDs onto my iPod. Worst case you would have to use another media player to get your other CDs onto your computer in mp3 format and then import them into iTunes.

No, she got the music from her CD into iTunes, but when she tried to import that onto her iPod, it just wouldn't let her.

I have had 2 zens.
I had the nomad, which lasted a little more than a year, as I dropped it on concrete(still works, but only random play).
I have the 30gb touch which I got for $200. I love it. Extremely durable, easy to navigate. The only issue I have with zens is their music library. It is horrible compared to itunes. I usually don't listen to music on my comp, though.
I can play movies, store pics and create playlists. Its easy to use.
I've had the touch for about 2 years now, have dropped it a few times, and it works fine.
I have never had an issue with a zen. As long as you take care of it, you won't have any problems.
Great sound quality.
The major drawbacks are that it is more difficult to find accessorys because they are not as compatable as ipods(cases, running bands, docking systems).
Make sure to look online for price comparisons, as I got a tremendous deal at buy.com.

Thanks to all of you, guys! Great advice.

I've got the Sandisk Sansa. Mine is a 4G, but I think they make one bigger. I like it, and I think it was only like $80 or so which is definitely reasonable.

My brother has an 80 GB iPod, I have a 30 GB Zune (there are 80 GB Zunes). I like my Zune a whole lot more, mainly because I don't have to deal with iTunes.

I have zen W, i bought it 2-3 years ago and it works fine. battery life is amazing still to this day. 80gb,widescreen, perfect for me since i travel alot and like to watch movies sometimes.

I'm listening to a 32GB Creative Zen right now, and it's amazing. I'd definitely recommend getting a Zen. I've had it for a month now, and it's a lot better than an iPod.

Personally i have an iPod 5th Gen Video 30GB. My friend had the Creative Zen in the 30GB i think and it was superb. I liked many of the features it had that the iPod doesnt have such as changing your menu background , FM/AM Radio built in, Built In Mic, Etc. I suggest the 16GB just in case your music library expands from here on out.

^I found with an AM/FM radio I didn't really listen to it because I had my own music. I guess I'm also finding that I'm not really using the video feature of my iPod video because it's a small screen and video eats battery life. The one thing I loved about my zen was that it came with a wall charger. With an iPod if you don't have a computer you can't charge it and I'm not willing to spend extra on a wall charger.

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

olgita, which one do you want to purchase?

I've had really great experience with mine, and I've had two. I had the Zen Nano Plus for three years, and the Zen V Plus for a year. Both have worked great for me. The V Plus has frozen on me twice in a year, but that's easy to remedy. I've drop and accidentally chucked that tiny thing a number of times, and it still doesn't have problems.

The 16G one is good if you want to put a lot of movies and stuff like that on it, in addition to your music. Some of the Creative products have a built in SD slot, so if yours does, you might want to take that in to consideration.

Overall, I just really recommend Creative products. =]

I want to get the flash-based Creative Zen -the new one that only comes in black.
