I read the post about a girl cheating on her recs and that scared me ....
I go to a school in India, and my school is absolutely strict about these things.....
But maybe the admission guys won't even consider what my teachers write because they will think its all trash and I probably wrote my recs myself.
My teachers love me and I expect them to write good things .... But I don't think adcoms will give much importance to what they write......
What do you guys think ??? ?

If adcomms thought that recommendations are trash, they would stop requiring them.

I think he means because he's from a different country, so he's not sure if colleges really know what it's like over there. If you read that thread, it talks about how cheating is rampant in China so basically nothing can be trusted.

19382 : U r right ... Just because if its happening in China doesn't mean that its happening at my school in India.... I hope that adcoms understand this....

Not only do colleges care about techer recs, they are becoming increasingly important given the prevalence of grade inflation and the rise in private college counselors who offer guidance on the application essays. Believe me, I heard this directly from an Associate Dean of Admissions at a leading Ivy.

it seems like you're worried about adcoms having preconceived notions. no matter who you are or where you're from, they'll have to read all the parts of your application. if your recs say that you're wonderful, and you have the stats to back that up, how could they possibly suspect anything?
