My d will be spending a semester in Italy this Spring. She will be also definately be travelling to Greece and France, and possibly one more country. Does anyone have any recent information about student credit cards (she only has a debit card)? Any other tips for receiving or spending money abroad? Thanks!

Debit card will be fine - credit cards are dangerous.

Agree that a debit card is a good choice. We could deposit money in the account when needed. A major plus was that when the card was stolen we only had to worry about losing the balance (since we got rid of overdraft). At the time she only had $70 on it and it was never withdrawn or spent; I think they stole her wallet for the cash.

That being said, we had the luxury of our daughter studying in a country where we had family who could give her money if she really needed it so we could keep the balance in her account fairly low. And of course to help her out with cash when she cancelled her card.
