I wanted to take some courses over the summer at my local CC, but I heard from a friend there is a limit on the number of credits I can transfer. I plan on taking four 4-unit courses, but one of them is just for fun.

Does anyone know what the limit is? And is it a quarterly limit, or an overall limit? (ie. "You can only transfer 8 units per summer" vs. "You can only transfer 24 units total over all four years") Also, if there is a cap on the units, can I choose which course(s) I don't get credit for? (For instance, if I take Physics, Math, and Art, and I only want the credit for Physics and Math, I can select Art as the one that doesn't transfer.)

This question can only be answered by the college or universtiy that will be accepting the credits. You might find the information in the on-line catalog.

Well yes, I checked with assist.org and all the courses I want to take are transferable. And I’m asking specifically for UCSD. So this means I can transfer as many as I want?

A maximum of 70 transferable semester units of community college credit will be applied toward the B.A. or B.S. degree. Any transferable units beyond 70 will be given subject credit.

You can only transfer 70 semester units, BUT all the classes you take will count as prereq and lower division course satisfaction, even if it adds up to more than 70 units. So take as many classes as you need, but don’t expect to graduate early or anything.

If you took all of your ge’s and some lower divs during summer at a community college, it’s really not that hard to see graduating in even two years. You’ll just have a hellish two years with more than 4 upper div/lower div classes each quarter.

You can only transfer 12 units worth of credits each summer to UCSD if you’re a continuing student.
Are you an incoming freshman, or are you a continuing UCSD student?
