Credit limit. Insight?

Hi guys!
I am in a dilemma and would love advice. Currently, I have 71 credits and I am applying to UCSD back at home. However, I do not think I will get accepted with my 4.0 GPA because I do not have all of the prerequisites for my major!
My husband is in the Army and while we were at his last duty station, I finished my Associates degree in less than 2 years, but I could not go far from my degree because I wanted to finish in such a short time!
So preferably, I would like to go to Mesa Community College and work on prerequisites and try again next year! My problem is this dang credit limit on almost all of the UCs. I have 71 credits right now. For UCSD, the maximum credits is 90. What do I do? I have so many dreams, and am a dedicated student. Being away from school for a year is touch enough, I would like to increase my chances and do what I can to get accepted next year, but with this credit limit I feel stuck. Does anyone have any advice? I have tried contacting schools, however, I cannot get far via email, and I am currently not in California to personally visit the schools.

Thanks guys!

I am pretty sure there is no limit for California Community College courses since they are all considered lower division.

^Correct. If they are all CC units (regardless of where they were taken), you cannot hit a maximum.

Okay, that is great news. I guess I will go to Mesa and take a ton of classes and try again next year  Now what about my credits from the University I am currently at? It is a University in the middle of Oklahoma lol

University or CC?

Either way, you will probably need to bring/send a transcript to your new CC so they can see which classes articulate.

If you do have university credits, they will be added on top of the 70 units of subject credit from CCs. Then you might run into some issues with a 90 unit limit.

So i could go to a CC and take 100 credits, and still apply even though I would be “senior standing”?

Do you have any university credits? Any at all?

Yes, they are university credits. 71 of them. :frowning:

Oh, that changes things. I thought you had 71 CC units.

I believe that UCs add university units and CC units. So you do need to be wary of your units.

@lindyk8 will have some good insight on this.

Well I don’t know if there is a way I could take credits off? Or make them Pass or No pass options. Really, I would do anything. I want to finish my bachelors and did not think it was going to be this hard for a 4.0 GPA student! frustrating… Thank you @luckie1367 I hope you get into your dream schools!

It is incredibly frustrating, I’m sorry that you are having to deal with it!

You might want to call UCSD and ask their opinion after you describe your situation. They may have options for you and more advice than I can give.

If it makes you feel better, I have confidence that you will be an exceptional person, regardless of where you get your degree! Don’t give up hope!

I appreciate that @luckie1367‌ ! That means a lot. I have yet to hear from UCSD. i saw someone got in without any prerequisites, but I understand with the applicant pool others will be higher qualified with their prerequisites. I am happy for all who get in! Hopefully that will be my next year for any college  Wishing you the best! Thank you again for your help. I will call more people tomorrow and hopefully get more info regarding my credits.

Do you need to finish up at UCSD, or can you finish where you are? Find out if that is possible. It might be your best bet. If they have a distance program, you could finish it wherever you are in the world.

Also do check out http://www.umuc.edu/ Active military and their dependents pay in-state tuition. I think http://www.worldcampus.psu.edu/?cid=CPCO17815&gclid=CN–5eWOrMQCFU5o7AodkzoAAw may have a similar policy. Both of those will accept up to 90 semester hours of credit for transfer students.
