I am taking the hardest class at the school, and the teacher offers a credit/no credit option. You set a grade limit, and if you fall below that, he will record your grade for that quarter as a CR/NC depending on whether you pass. You can decide up until the last day of every quarter what your limit is and whether you will take the CR/NC option. I don't anticipate using it, but it made me curious. What do colleges think when they see a stray CR or two on a transcript, especially if it is all A's and no failed class credit recovery credits? Is it considered a C for GPA purposes, or do the most selective colleges rule these apps out? I hadn't heard of this option before and I was just wondering what the general admissions consensus is.

I would talk to your school guidance counselor about this. They have probably dealt with this issue before in college admissions. I doubt that it would show up as a C. If I had to guess, I would say it doesn’t factor into a the GPA, but your school counselor would probably be the best resource for this. If you’re already looking at specific schools, you might ask their admissions offices as well.
