I know the credit limitation is 18, but I have to ask: is there some way to get by with 19? or is it an absolute no-no.

You need to talk to your advisor and ask for a petition (which needs to be signed by your advisor). I don’t suggest you taking 19 credits in the first semester though.

I actually agree with u, fri3nds04.
Drop ANTHR 1400(3 creds and satisfy cultural perspective req) or AEM 1210( seems interesting, only one credit, and maybe a high grade)?

Last year 358 people were enrolled in AEM 1210, and the median grade was an A. So, it’s certainly a “high grade” class. I don’t know what your major is, but if you aren’t an AEM, you can always take the class next year So, if you drop AEM 1210, you would be having 18 credits? How many classes is that? If it’s 5+, then I think it’s better for you to drop ANTHR 1400, and take AEM instead. It really depends :(

if i count my intro to ILR course( which is once a week), fws, anthr, and not include aem 1210, then i will have exactly 6 courses and a PE.

6 classes + a PE? hm… that might be a bit too much… :S

if I had to drop one that is tougher, would it be anthr 1400 or aem1210? anthropology would give me a lot more free time

O here’s a secret not very many people know but I do because I’ve overloaded two semesters: If you max out the limit on student center WITHOUT registering for the PE class you can still walk to Teagle Hall and register for that one credit PE IN PERSON; doing it this way will get you 18 academic credits plus the one PE without raising any flags or having to get lots of forms signed.

18 is abnormally high for first semester so unless you’ve planned out your 8 semesters already, listen to the others.

I’m CoE so I have no clue between either of those classes

I’m a frosh in CoE but my credit limit is 23 … is that a mistake?

^No, that’s correct. The credit limit is indeed 23 for people in Engineering.

^many of core CoE classes are 4 creds ea. for ex 4x5 + a 3 credit course would put you at 23

Fist semester freshman, my advice to you regarding scheduling is this. Take the classes you NEED to first. Then if you are below 18 credits add a few classes until you are right near 18 credits. Then during the first two weeks of classes, go to all of your classes. At the end, drop one of your classes so your credit load will be around 15.

Or you can try 18 and drop within the allotted time frame.

ILR/Humanities classes tend to be less time consuming than hard science classes, so if you feel like working 18 credits should be doable.
