The average number of credits taken is 15. Is it acceptable that I can take 12-13 credits in the first semester to adjust to the new environment and then 15-16 credits in the second semester? Or, should I just take 5 classes instead of four and get 15-16 credits? I'm wondering what the average number of credits taken in the first year is.

I would advise not to go over 15 for your first semester, so yes, you can do that. Once you've adjusted to the college "feel", feel free to take as many courses as you can handle.

Heres the best advice I can give you i signed up for 15 credits my first year first semester and was fine! I think that it is better for you to sign up with 15 credits and then if you feel a class or the workload is too hard drop one and then you will still have 12, thus still leaving you in Full-time

Ok. I'm taking 15 credits in my first-year fall. But, the only problem is that it's 3 classes. Do we only care about the credits, not the number of classes taken? If I take another class, it would be 18 credits, and I don't want to overwhelm myself. Are 3 classes okay, or is it too few?

Just worry about the credits. What classes are you taking? Sounds like you've got 3 science classes (pre med stuff?) with labs. Booooring.

Yes, pre-med stuff. Biology, Chemistry, and Calculus. Any pre-med students at UVA here? What courses did you take in your freshman year?
