HI everyone, I'm new to CC so I have some question in mind, hope u all dont mind!! :) The thing is I will start college mid Sept, and I am still discussing with my adviso rabout my classes. I am a Biology major, and according to her, I would take 16 credits/semester. however, I still want to add a language class to my sched (French) as I have been learning the language for a long time. But she said that she did not recommend adding anymore class, as it would make me take 20 credits/semester. I have the intention to transfer to top LAC or the top 30 National, that's why I want to make sure that my first year would be describe as rigorous!! Can anyone help me with my prob? Is 16 credits (Chem, Bio, Calculus, Eng, college Core) enough for the top LAC or National, Ivies? How would you recommend to my transfer plan? Thank you all :)

IMHO I completely agree with your advisor.

It’s better to get good grades first semester and figure out your limits rather than stretching yourself out too thin, especially if you’re planning to transfer. I would put off taking French and just take it second semester if that’s possible and if you’re still interested.

Rigor isn’t the issue now that you’re in college. You’re taking standard academic courses, not basket weaving and advanced tanning. Everything you’re taking will be rigorous; the math and intro sciences also may be weedout courses designed to discourage potential pre-meds. You need a 4.0, or close, if you’re committed to transferring. If you want to take French, can you postpone chemistry?
