in the common app, they ask you for the credit of the classes you are taking.

Now, in my state, credits don't exist. There are lessons that have more hours than others (e.g. Science here is 5 hours per week), but that's it.

Plus, every year the credits change, which credit do I have to put? The completed year, or the current year?

If I put, for ex. 5 credit for Science and 2 for History, will they think I only did 5 year of science and 2 year of History?

Or, do I have to multiply the n. of years and the . of hours?

Thanks!

How's in the USA?

This is how I interpreted that section to be on the Common App (Someone correct me if I’m wrong!):

The credit refers to how much credit your school gives for the course. For example, a course at my school that meets every day for one period (which is approximately 1 hour) for the entire year would get 1 full credit. Courses that meet for one period for only half the year would get 0.5 credit, and so on. I don’t believe it refers to the number of courses you have taken in that subject during high school (for example, I don’t think it refers to 4 years of science, or two years of history, etc.).

Since your school classifies courses by the number of hours, I would follow this outline: classes that meet 5 hours a week for the entire year (like your science class) is essentially equivalent to 1 period for an entire year at schools that have a period schedule, which would be 1 full credit. Classes that meet for 5 hours a week for only half the year, or that meet for only 2 or 3 hours a week for the full year would most likely be equivalent to a semester at a period school, which would also be 0.5 credits. This is how I would interpret this to be.

Again someone tell me if I’m wrong…good luck! I’m filling out my application this summer also.

every class is year-long.
I will ask my headmaster as soon as school start. Thanks!

My school doesn’t do credits either, and we run on a trimester system. So I assigned 1 credit to be a trimester course, and 3 for a yearlong course, etc. I don’t think it really matters; I think colleges just want to know if something is a short elective or a year-long class.

thanks everyone! :)
