Creighton 2024 Admission Decisions

@momof3co we have still to visit ( going end of March) , but it is one of my daughter’s top choices ( for nursing ). I would love to hear what factors bumped it up your daughter’s list. coming from CA weather is def a concern but I have heard from another CA student there that it is bearable !

We are attending Admitted Student Day on 2/17. My son has still not decided, particularly because of the cost. I am concerned about the weather; he is not. We live in Southern Arizona where there are really no winters! It is currently 70 degrees! We will see in a couple days.

DD attendee the special program/competition/interviews in January and received a packet today notifying her of the Scott Scholar award. It was her goal merit scholarship. Definitely lifted her spirits to receive. I did read, through this tread, about a security concern on campus where a girl had been raped and no campus support was offered/no consequences occurred. We will speak to the school about this before he commits. Still in the process of making her decision while awaiting merit awards from other schools. She felt Creighton was a good fit and met her criteria for near campus internships and access to local business internships. Still needs to find out more about research opportunities and a double major with minor outside of Heider.

@“2020/2022 mom” Congratulations to your daughter! That is so very exciting, and the outcome my D20 had hoped for. She got a letter today saying she was selected as an alternate for Scott Scholars, and will be able to get the scholarship if a student selected for the award does not accept it. Still hoping it’s a possibility!! Does anyone know how many alternates there are in a given year?

@CadenM Have fun this weekend! It will feel very cold to you  but it is bearable. Very different from AZ! Check out the Spielbound Cafe, my D and I spent a few hours there and had a great time.

@lass71 I understand Creighton is a great choice for nursing! My daughter is pursuing business and I’m glad to share our thoughts. For her, the visit confirmed for her that Creighton offers an opportunity for nearly guaranteed employability. This is really important to her. We could see that they really help students succeed, and make sure they stay on track to succeed. My D does NOT want to be micromanaged, but at the same time, wants to be held accountable and make the most of her college career. She also really enjoyed Omaha (much to her surprise). She wants to be near/in a city, and while Omaha is small, there are still a lot of options for diverse cultural experiences (and we are comparing to Denver). I was personally impressed by how very nice everyone was in Omaha, and how professional and structured the Creighton programs were. May not be everyone’s thing, but it just felt like a home for my daughter. Best of luck to yours in whatever she pursues!

@momof3co thank you so much for your insight and best of luck for your daughter getting one of those fantastic scholarships! She’s done so well to be an alternate. My sophomore son is interested in business so will need to check out Creighton for him!

DS accepted. Only school outside of the South that he is interested in. Determined to get out of IL. I visited campus while on business trip in Jan. and was impressed. DS will be finance or accounting major. Got very good financial package and if it wasn’t Omaha I think it would be top choice. Have to take him for campus visit. He just isn’t sure if he wants to start career in NE. Thoughts?

Hi- we are also from CA too and my daughter is a also nursing major. We attended admitted students day yesterday. If you have any questions, let me know. Where are you from in CA? We are from N. CA (Easy Bay Area).

@HVasconi I sent you a message. Would love to know what you thought.

@catholicmom3 My D is also determined to get out of state for college. One thing she really liked about Creighton is that they have access to more internships than they have students, and these internships are not only in NE. With the close-knit (but widespread) alumni network they have, I understand students should be able to find internships and/or jobs most anywhere they want to work. I definitely think the campus visit will make it clear whether or not it’s the right fit for your S, or a contender!

@momof3co We plugged in Creighton today to his final 3 choices…2 in TX and added Creighton for comparison. I suggest you do the same or just check out Creighton’s stats. It really has an excellent ROI when you factor in costs, earning potential per major, and job opportunity. The fact that it is Catholic is a bonus for us. Kudos to Creighton for having a higher max starting salary listed than Villanova or SMU! (bio- health services degree but still it’s impressive). https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?181002-Creighton-University

@catholicmom3 This is so helpful! Thank you very much. I wonder if I will be plugging in one of the TX schools you did  We are only looking at one in that state. After our visit to Creighton, I was convinced it is kind of a hidden gem for many reasons. Hope we are not missing something.

Baylor & SMU in TX. Accepted at both but deferred at Cox business school. It’s going to come down to $ and ROI for his major. Kudos again to Creighton for being an affordable, competitive option. I really loved the main campus that I walked. Church was beautiful. Loved the photos of the Past President Irish Fathers lining the wall in Creighton Hall. Impressed with investment in business school. His counselor suggested we take a look at Creighton as several alumni have had good experiences. Just so happens I know 2 med school bound kids that will be at Creighton also next year. And what are the odds that I would just happen to have a conference in Omaha this year? Seems all roads are leading to Creighton…

@catholicmom3 Baylor is the one in TX she is considering. She got in but we have yet to visit. Have scheduled to be there at the end of March. She keeps coming back to Creighton, as many of our roads are leading there as well.

@HVasconi, Congrats, My D was admitted to Nursing as well, and we are from CA! We would love to hear what you thought of the program. We will not visit until later March. My D wants to rule Creighton out because of the cold weather, but on paper, the school seems to be a great fit.

My daughter is considering applying to Creighton. Would you mind sharing GPA and test scores and what kind of merit scholarship dollars you received?

Son was recently accepted at Creighton class of 2025 for nursing with 96K merit over 4 years (24K per year) .
SAT - 1450
GPA - 3.8 UW, 4.3 W

We aren’t Catholic or especially religious though we like the Jesuit philosophy of care for others and service.

Both interviews he had with admission counselors they were so friendly and kind.

Would a non-Catholic not very religious and smart kid feel comfortable there? We haven’t been able to visit yet because of COVID. Hoping to maybe do a road trip over winter break but then again… COVID.

@TaraSkye1 , we are not Catholic either and my daughter feels very comfortable. She said the religious aspect is there if you want it, but not overbearing. She has a friend sho is very involved in the Catholic clubs, etc and never feels excluded at all. I think when I looked at last year’s profile, under 50% of the admitted class identified as Catholic, but I cannot remember where I saw that…
