I am going to UGA next year and I would greatly appreciate if people who have stayed in or know a lot about these dorms (Creswell and Reed) could tell me which hall is better (for me). I am looking to meet new people, have a relatively quiet room for studying- but at the same time be close to the parties. Also, I am wondering about how long of a WALK it would be from one place to another or how long of a wait it is for a BUS to come and take me from one dorm to the other? Lastly, I can't wait to see your insight on which is the better dorm! and thanks in advance for your answer.

Reed is definitely quieter. Creswell is more of a party hall, its also closer to the frat houses for parties. However Reed is much closer to downtown, within 10 minutes walking distance. It probably takes 15 minutes or so to walk between the dorms. I don’t think there’s a bus that directly goes from one to the other. FYI Reed is usually considered the more higher-end dorm, not many freshmen live there. You should definitely go with Reed if you can afford it.

Alright, thanks for the insight. So I wouldn’t regret it if I stayed in Reed Hall as a freshman if I wanted to meet a lot of new people, right? I like the other perks to Reed Hall but I’m just not sure if I want to be that far away from the party scene. Other than frat parties, Do you know if more people go downtown to party or do they just go to like Creswell, Russell, and Brumby for the big parties?

My D stayed in Reed and it is definitely quiet. I don’t think I ever saw anyone hanging out in the halls or lobby ever when we visited. It is centrally located and she walked to most classes. The drawback is not being close to dining halls. She did have to take the bus to eat and that was a hassle sometimes. Overall, she liked the Reed. If meeting people is a priority, I would not say its impossible in Reed but it would definitely be harder in Reed than in Creswell.

Reed is centrally located and is an easy walk to the MLC/Tate area (center of campus). It’s an uphill walk for both north and south campus, but it’s not too bad. I’ve only been in Reed once and I can’t remember it well, so I can’t compare on aesthetics. As already stated, the biggest con for Reed is its distance to dining halls. It was hard enough to get me to the dining hall when it was right outside my door (I lived in Creswell). I’d imagine I would’ve gone even less if I lived farther away.

I don’t think any parties actually happen in the high rise dorms. Those dorms just contain a lot of party people. Downtown and the greek houses are where the big parties are at.

I don’t think you’ll have a problem meeting people with either dorm, and Reed will likely be the more quiet dorm (except on game days since Reed is right next to the stadium). But I lived in Creswell and liked it well enough, so it’s up to you and what other perks each dorm offers.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
