Crew Recruiting

Does anyone know how good one has to be at crew to be recruited at Princeton and other ivy league schools, both men's and women's. I would think that unlike most sports, Princeton would be pretty good at crew, so it might be harder to get recruited. Also, when do colleges recruit for crew, this fall, last spring, or when? This is not for me, which explains why I don't know anything?

Also do most crew recruits come from top high school programs and teams, or it a more individual evaluation?

There are usually reps from big crew schools at large regattas (Stotes, nationals). Other than that, put your name on the Vespoli website and email coaches.

but..are the princeton recruits usually pretty good comparative to other schools?

And when would someone know if they were being recruited?

Thanks.

yes. 6:20 on the 2k erg

For the record, Princeton is good at a lot of sports; just not the huge team sports which require large scholarship offerings to recruit top talent to compete.

As for crew, I imagine it's tough to get recruited, since Princeton is very strong at crew. I would email the coach for more information though, if I were you.

thanks...and 1MX is that number for women's or men's.

obviously mens

and what would women's be?

For Lightweight women, about 7:30 for a 2k (that's what we were told during our visit in summer of 2006)

I don't know about heavyweight women

Such is the nature of crew as a sport that the kids that get recruited happen to be very smart aswell. Last year our valedictorian got recruited for crew and this kid was legendary (in his entire high school career he recieved ONLY 1 A- and that was sophomore year 1st semester in english, otherwise he maintained an A or an A+ in every subject which included a lot of tough ones)

6:20!!!

damn, i'm not there yet...
