Wow, this site has been quiet. No "chance mes" even. What's up, Smith community? :D

Mhm, awfully quiet lately.

Current applicants are in the application/waiting period and Smithies are in pre-finals stress mode, basically. Not sure what the parents’ excuse is :)

Yes, I applied RD and all of my app materials have been in for a while now, the waiting is killing me.

prepping for D to come home for Thanksgiving possible with lots of laundry:)

In the same sitch with CPU. Just fixed an error with my second recommendation but things are now running smoothly.

Larentia, glad everythig worked out. Are you (well, your parent(s)) going to do the parent recommendation?

I’m trying to convince my mom to do it, but she’s pretty meh right now.

I’m going to have my mom do it. We were both really surprised that they’d ask for it. That is why I love smaller colleges/Smith In total I will have four recommendations, because I sent a supplemental one in. Hope they won’t mind.

Bossf51, yeah, this is the quietest I’ve seen the Smith forum in well over two years. Teenage_cliche, as parents, I’d wager that we’ll spring into action whenever some curious student pops a question, but in the meantime we’ll lay low–there’s always plenty of other stuff we’ve been procrastinating doing because we’ve been too busy on CC! :)

I’m confused. My D applied early decision and there was no mention of a parent recommendation. We went on the tour, info session, interview, etc., too and there was no mention of it. I just looked on the website and didn’t see anything there either. Are we missing something? Wonder if it’s too late to send it in now? Does anyone have more info? Thanks!

If I remember correctly, parents are asked for a letter later in the process, and it is very clear that it is optional.

I am applying RD to Smith and my parents received a mailing about the parent recommendation about a week after I submitted my application. Hope that helps!

Hmmm…we’re confused. D sent in her application, ED, two weeks ago and we haven’t received anything about a parent recommendation. Maybe we should give admissions a call in the morning?

I also applied early decision. The people at admission’s did not mention the recommendation to me when they were checking that I had everything completely submitted. I have never heard of this before this forum.

perhaps it’s only sent out to RD applicants, since their parents have more time to complete it…? I’m not sure.

I think it is offered to RD applicants only. The deadline is February I believe. It’s COMPLETELY optional. There’s a link in the letter (don’t have it handy) that you type into the browser bar. There’s no direct link from the Smith website if you are browsing.
