cries slash tears hair out

Greetings all. I am in a state of distress and will attempt to explain my situation without bawling over in tears and thus destroying my new laptop. (last thing i need oh lord)

I'm a sophomore at UMass Amherst. In a nutshell- I must get out for very legitimate reasons, namely quality of academics (or lack thereof) and social scene. (do not enjoy partying, i know...crazy huh?)

Anyway, here are my stats:
My cumulative GPA is a 3.77
1st semester (3.9)
2nd semester (3.6),
Took classes at Amherst (B+)..We have a Five College thing that allows us to do so.
EC: Newspaper staff
Commonwealth College (honors college)
Honor Society, dubbed with some greek name, i forget, (not too
impressive, rolls eyes)
Dean's list
Summer internship at marketing/advertising company, tons of quality resume stuff (for reals!), manager is alum of top 5 LAC, great rec.

High school GPA ~3.5, at a very reputable/competitive pulic high school
5APs (took test for only 2, scored a 4 on both), all honors, etc. etc. was basically like unexploited potential. ha. just kidding. was mostly a bum and enjoyed watching laguna beach instead of doing work. ok just kidding. well. i had teen angst and didn't do as well as i should have.
EC: tons of orch stuff (first chair in large, respected orch)
volunteer work/fodder
office job
tutor
my SAT is kind of low, in the high 1200s oh gawwd.

So basically, this is just for my own reassurance.... I'm planning on applying to one of the top LACs for spring. top as in top 20. if that situation goes awry-- i'll do tons more apps for fall 08 transfer.

good idea? good chances? don't hurt my feelings. this is like my therapy group! just kidding...i want advice regarding how to better improve? is this doable? i'm just nervous becuase umass isn't exactly the greatest name and my gpa isn't as high as it shouild be...i suppose essays weigh in a lot? merci merci! wow this is slightly therapeutic! i hope i make sense...am in slight frenzy

Raise your SAT to mid 1300s

lol,, whats up--- Im also a soph. here at Umass-amherst and im trying to transfer. this place blows, the turnover rate here is astronomical, 50% of the people i was in close contact with last year are gone, the freshman return rate must be like 70% or less. anyways our stats seem similar, Im a business major though.

ps. i just ate wings and they were good.

haha i'm jealous. i kind of wanted wings but i only had 2 bucks in my wallet.in change that is. great. yeah..the retention rate is like redic. hampshire's is worse i think, but lucky for them, their school is still cooler/more prestigious than ours. (well, i personally like the grungy hippy vibe)..theprofessor--where are you looking to apply to?

i have a post on this page with my list... mostly universities in big cities with good busines programs

What kind of college are you looking for?

your description was quite humorous, btw.

do you guys like amherst college?

you mean like, the umass population in general? not sure if i can speak for everyone, since well, mostly everyone at umass is probably inebriated right about now, but i think for the most part there is def a clear schism amongst the five colleges...umass thinks amherst's pompous, amherst thinks umass is stupid etc etc. i don't know..there are definitely people that fit the stereotype for the school, (hence the stereotype), but you really can't generalize.. i liked most of the amherst ppl i met. they aight. werd.

If the college you're applying to is SAT-optional, don't submit. If that doesn't work, include some SAT-optionals in your next try. Or, re-take, as someone suggested. Good luck.

no, i mean amherst college! like the college in general...

is it really advisable to not send my SAT scores? i mean, i know 1280 is low...but..what if they think it's lower than that? yikes.

Raise your SAT to mid 1300s

Given that the new SAT is out of 2400, that is probably the worst advice you could propagate on this forum.

most colleges dont care about the writing, so when i said 1300, I was assuming the person knew that I was talking about the combined score of the Math and the Reading Section.

...unfortunately, according to a principle of logic, "most colleges" does not necessarily mean "Amherst College." Do the research before posting what are meant to be facts.

mustgetout enver mentioned about amherst college in his/her Original Post.

Whoops, she just mentioned "top LACs."

My point still stands. Research the policies of the top 20 LACs before making a point that is supposed to stand as fact.

So clearly you think that Writing section is equally weighted as the Verbal and Math section?

I think not. Sure, they may put up "average admitted GPA is blah blah blah", but im sure getting 700 on math, 700 on reading, and 500 writing is considered differently than getting a 500 on math, 700 on reading, and 700 on writing.

I never said that.

well that's what i've been saying, and you seemed to disagree with it.
