Can any current students or parents of tell me if the crime/safety factor has improved. I know that the college in the fall after the shooting of a student instituted a mammoth security mobilzation that I believe was at a cost of 400K for 3 months. What has happened since Xmas??? Is the extra security ( Town of lancaster/ campus police and private security firm )still in place.?? TIA

Since no one responded I wanted to provide some information from "inside" the college. We continue to improve and refine our public safety initiatives by maintaining the increased staffing levels through a coordinated effort with our own public safety department, Allied Security services, the James Street Improvement District (JSID) bike patrol, and the Lancaster Bureau of Police.

In addition, the college is expanding it's closed circuit television capability, improving lighting on campus and working with Lancaster City to improve lighting off campus, expanding the F&M Shuttle service to 7 days a week, and providing safety and awareness training to our students. We have also launched a major new initiative to evaluate and improve the security of our campus facilities and residence halls.

As we move forward we will capitalize upon the opportunities the exist to continue improvements to campus security and student safety through all possible channels - increasing student awareness, applying appropriate existing and emerging technologies, investment in public safety staff and training, the coordination of local services and agencies, and engaging students in developing initiatives to improve safety on campus.

Thank you for your inquiry and I can assure you that there is no initiative more important to us than the safety of our students. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions or concerns.

Thanks for your reply, it was reassuring. Now its decision time.

What did you decide?

My daughter decided to attend boston college, Boston College is a great school and very prestigious and should bode her well in her post college life

. It was down to BC, Gettysburg and F&M....She received 7,00 merit$ from F&M, 8,500 merit $ from G'burg and Loyola, zippo from BC.

The funny thing is that she would have attended Fand M if they would have offered her the 12K merit money. We asked if they could up the ante and got a very chilly response, that and feedback from a current student led us to give our DD the freedom to choose whatever school she wanted regardless of $$$. My daughter did end up getting over $7,000 per year in community and private scholarships, which helped soften the financial blow.
