Criminology vs Sociology (MA/MSc) issue

I've been accepted for CSU Fresno's Criminology program. I'm awaiting reply from SJSU / San Jose State's MA Sociology, which also has a concentration in Criminology.

Assuming that I get in, I have now to choose between a MA Sociology program with a Criminology emphasis vs a straight out MS Criminology.

Here is where I'm conflicted. Which degree serves me better if I hope to seek employment with federal law enforcing agencies after receiving my Master's?

The majors themselves seem to have some overlap over the principles related to crime and social deviance, whereas the Sociological aspect is likely to focus on research and analytical positions while the Criminology foundations might be more of a "hands down" approach.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I don’t think it will matter that much either way. The difference in between those is not going to make or break whether you get hired or not.

Your work experience will be far more important. Not many people get hired into federal LEO positions without previous LE/military experience.

Thanks for the reality check. Yeah, that’s in line with one of the next employment/intern opportunities I plan to pursue.

I felt I’m too concerned over the job prospects in the marketability of either degrees, should worse come to worse.
