Critical Reading Help for High Scorer

Hello everyone. Does anyone have Critical Reading tips for passage questions? I took the November 2014 SAT and got a 730 in reading, 800 math, 790 writing. I had missed 3 vocab and 2 passage based questions. My primary study tool was the blue book. I retook the SAT in November of this year, and to my disappointment got a 720 in reading, 800 in math, and 790 writing. I got none wrong in vocab but somehow missed 5 passage based questions (3 hard, 2 medium). I felt confident I did well in reading, but I was wrong. I had been studying using old practice tests, and was getting high 700s and 800s on reading before the actual test. I was somewhat sick when I took it, so that could have been a factor. I plan on retaking the test in January, because I feel that part of the reason I was deferred from my top choice (Ivy) was because of my lower reading score. Please let me know if you have/had a similar problem and what helped you. Thanks.

believe me when i say that a 2310 / 2320 sat was definitely NOT the reason you didn’t get accepted. in my opinion, you don’t need to raise your score any further. i think you should focus more on writing college apps and enhancing your profile as such

SAT score is fine.

Focus on improving your essays and your application in general.

I just worry that my reading score is on the lower end of the 25th percentile for some of the elite colleges I’m applying to.

If you’re so worried about that just take the Lit subject test and get 750+ on it
