Critical Reading Help

I know that this seems to be a very frequent topic among these forums because most people struggle in this area, but I want to try and compile all of the solutions into one thread so that people can look at this for reference.

Pretty much, I am solid at Math (PSAT 80 without studying). I am improving at Writing as I am learning more grammar, but I have no way to improve my CR. I received 55 each on my PSAT for CR and W. I want to know some strategies such as Silverturtle's, Xiggi's, and Noitaraperp's to try and improve.

I know the usual response on these forums for improving is to buy the BB and do it section by section and find trends, but I basically do not read at all. I know that CB has a book list that is good for high school students, but I was wondering if you guys had any good books to help me start reading to improve my CR score. I want to do a lot of reading this summer because I tend to lose focus during CR.

Thank you guys so much for all your help.

Magazines will be effective prep for critical reading because the writing comes in similarly sized chunks. You should check out The Economist and The New Yorker. I think Time and Newsweek are written at a slightly lower reading level than those two.

I gave a CR strategy for the passages a few days ago. Here’s the quote:

I didn’t have to study for CR myself, but I developed this strategy in helping others. It ends up developing the mentality I had for CR passages naturally. People I know who asked for help say that this worked well for them.

Hey thank u for putting it up again, do h think it’s possible , that by using this method I will increase my cr s ore from 630 to 680?
Thank u thank u

I improved my score from 60 CR on my sophomore PSAT to an 800 on the real Oct. 9 SAT. I wrote a guide with the link posted below on specifics on how to attack the critical reading strategy effectively. I’ll go out right now and tell you that I did not do any excessive vocabulary learning other than making sure I knew the sentence completions’ words. I also did not go read any books; I just studied from the actual passages in the CR sections of the SAT. The link is below. I would appreciate if you could comment on its effectiveness.
