critical reading? more like critical death

So, I guess I can figure out how to solve the math problems, how to think about which sentence is most correct in the grammar section...But then, here comes critical reading biting you in the rear. What is up with that section? I am decent at english and i still got a 410 then a 520 on it? I have NO idea how these people get 700+ on it, and I may never know.

ok I know what you mean!
I can even handle the essay section, but reading and then determining tone or the importance of a phrase, I'm lost...
The best thing?
Practice. That's what I did. Before the SATI, I did 7 of 9 practice tests from one of those huge books, and after a while, passages began to click for me.
But there's a point where I couldn't "get" them any more. But i still got there, and I ended up improving my score from 460 to 740...
Good luck and remember to work your butt off ...

wow 460-740?

How long did that take you? Is that just from studying from the blue book or was there confouding variables such as reading more while you studied etc.

Hm... You definitely need a "feel" for the passages, for what collegeboard expects. There are some things you can do about it, though. For instance, I noticed for a lot of the questions, all but two of the answers are obviously wrong. You can eliminate those and get 50/50 chance without even having to look at the question (sometimes). Also, always be careful of those answers containing the words "always," "never," etc. The answer is not likely to take an extreme stance on anything.

Other than that, just practice. :)

My son rec'ed a score of 800 on the CR and Writing but 690 in Math. He didn't take a review course, just did practice tests and looked through a review book. However, he told me that it is really important to review vocabulary words (his rev. book had about 300 words) in order to have a good grasp on the reading passages. Carolyn

hmmm.......my problem is writing!!!!!!!!!!!(perfect for both math and reading)
i never can break 750 on the writing section...is there any tip for writing(just the multiple choice section, because i am pretty good with the essay, consistently getting 10 and 11).....

We should take over the College Board!!!
