Critical Reading Question

From a released college board SAT:

Italicized Text: A boy and his fater are driving to New York city, where his father, Earl, hopes to being a career as a musician.

Earls aim was to take two lane highways all the way from Chicago to New York. "This way." he explained, as we moved out into the hot July dawn, "we will actually see where we're going. I hate those turnpikes, Virgil. They're inhuman and, just you wait, one day they'll take over the whole country. Everything will be concrete." There were other, less sentimental reasons for taking the back roads: no tolls to pay, cheaper gasoline stations, and a chance to price shop when we were hungry.

Which would best serve as an additional example of the "reasons" (line 7)?
(A) Faster Travel
(B) Scenic Views
(C) Less Pollution
(D) Fewer Cities
(E) Inexpensive Motels

How are you suppose to know this? He doesn't like turnpikes (highways) so A and D are eliminated I guess. I don't get many passage based questions wrong on CR yet I am stumped on this one and its only a level 3.

And also here are 2 math questions I need help with…

http://img.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/v407/ammad/IMG00218-20110918-0234.jpg

I put 90 for that one…wrong.

http://img.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/v407/ammad/IMG00219-20110918-0237.jpg

I got this one right but wanted your guys take on how to do it.

I am not sure, but i think the answer is E. Earl seems like a real cheap as*.

no tolls to pay, cheaper gasoline stations

This is easy… its obviously E because he is looking for non sentimental, or pragmatic reasons for taking the back roads. The presence of inexpensive motels can fit the group of cheap gas stations, restaurants, and few tolls.

I would also say E because E has the word inexpensive. It goes along with the words pay, cheaper and price.
