i was wondering what is the best way to improve in these two categories. i get anywhere from 600- 650 on critical reading and around 650 for writing. im not sure about essays but multiple choice, i usually get about 5 wrong on writing and for critical reading i get about 15 - 20 wrong. i was wondering what is the best method to improve these scores before the january test. im solid on math so im not worried about it but for these two, what can i do? i already study vocab daily but for passage reading wise and for writing, what can i do to increase my score? thanks

buy (or, more preferably, borrow) an SAT critical reading prep book and read 1-2 passages a day during your free time. Then answer the questions and look up the explanations. Also, carry a pocket dictionary around with you to most places you go and scan words when you have time.

the writing section is easily the most coachable SAT section. check out sparknotes.com and catch up on the ten essential writing rules to know for the SAT. if you go over this for several days and do enough practice writing sections, you'll be scoring 700+ consistently.

thanks, do you think reading very long passages would help? or is reading sample SAT passages and answering questions the best way to improve?

SAT critical reading prep book---is that the barrons one?

you can also try number2.com that helped me out but i only got a 590 Cr and 570 W but I improved a lot.

i would also like to know the answer to blue_sky's question

for help in vocabulary on the reading portion of the SAT, i suggest that you get "Word Power Made Easy," it really helps.

i was at 650 with just my bare intellect

i bought a pr 11 practice test book did 1-2 cr passages a day for 2.5 weeks and scored an 80 on my psats and am confident i can score 720+ in sats

basically you just have to be very critical with the answer choices analyze them

good luck!
