So I took the SAT in March and I think I will retake in October. I got 800 M, 780 W, 670 CR last time around. I really and displeased with my CR score, and I would like to get it to 750 or higher. Now I know that reading is key and I do plan to read a lot over the summer. I also will be cramming in vocabulary for the test. However, my main concern is the passage based questions. I cannot seem to find any strategies that work and the blue book only has so much in it. What do you suggest I do to improve my passage based CR skills?

similar sort of problem, only i have trouble witht eh writing part of the SAT reasonig too…

cicero, nice screen name. For the CR passages, try taking practice tests different ways – reading the questions first vs. reading the passages first – to see if one way works better for you. Also, read things like the Economist, which offers short articles on a variety of subjects, for practice.

Read, read, and read.

But seriously, doing a lot of practice tests will clue you in about “how” to do the reading questions. I found that after doing dozens of practice exams, I gained an almost psychological insight as to how and what the question wants. Once you reach that level, an 800 becomes simple.

I have the same problem. First time 600, second time 650. Much lower than my other scores, and I would like to get it to 720 at least.

I have been doing this, but I feel like this is the long term solution and it won’t really make much of a difference if you are preparing for the test in only a few weeks.

I’m starting to notice this too. There are still 1-2 questions in each section which completely baffle me, but it’s certainly an improvement from before (I’ve simply been doing blue book tests).

SImilar situation.I scored 540 in January. Now ,after improving significantly my vocabulary I improved to 600 on practice tests. For the last 5 days I have been doing qas every day and as azngod1992 said ,the questions become so similar and banal that as long as you read the passage carefully you will not have any problems answering the questions correctly.I finished the last 3 tests with only 10-13 errors with is about 650.Note that I started with 23 errors on my first qas .After each test I notice an improvement and really hope to make no more than 6-7 errors on June 6th.I realize I will need a lot of luck but considering that my math and WR are perfect ,I will be happy just to break 2200
