Has anyone looked to their state law to enroll in the Critical Teacher Shortage Student Loan Forgiveness Program which forgives student debt in accordance with the respective statutory requirements? In these hard times, the loss of some income by low paying salaries may be offset by teaching perks which include this program as well as retirement and health programs.

These are great programs but not that easy to qualify for and do take some time to get there. Excellent for the right students though.

Its mind boggling, that this program applies to at least one district near me that gets 10s of applicants for each position.

I was just wondering about this program. I remember hearing about a program years ago that said if you worked as a teacher, your student loans would be forgiven.

In such high unemployment, and with such a teacher shortage in economically disadvantaged areas, this seems like a great idea.

Does such a thing exist?
