Looking for feedback on my essay for Northwestern University. When I first started writing my essay, I felt like I was listing information about NU that everyone knew and would write about. So in order to not have a boring, typical essay, I think I took a very unique route. Let me know what you think about it please.

Not many girls can state unequivocally that they have wanted to be a Northwestern cheerleader since they were ten-years-old. But I can. Ive grown up in the south where college football players and cheerleaders are the Olympian gods and goddesses on college campuses but Ive learned it isnt like that north of the Mason-Dixon line.

As a talented and dedicated competition cheerleader, people often assume I plan to go to college for cheerleading, as most cheerleaders in the south do. Little do they know, cheerleading is not my sole passion in life. To me, college is meant for the purpose of receiving an education which will allow me to live a fruitful and enjoyable life, but while also exploring and indulging in the activities which interest me. I realized very early on, Northwestern is the only school which will provide me with everything I need and want in a college.

I remember the first time I set foot on the campus of Northwestern when I was ten-years-old. It was the summer and as we walked along the paths around the old buildings and toward the lakefront, I was awed by the beauty of the campus. (Dont worry, Ive been back in the winter and though we walked more quickly across the open spaces, I still love it.)

When I was ten, my major attraction to Northwestern was the city; my parents cruelly moved me from Evanston to Atlanta just after my first birthday. We go to Chicago several times each year to visit my grandparents and when we go home, we go out to eat and walk around downtown Evanston. Each time we visit, I fall more and more in love.

As I began to think about what I wanted to do in college and later in life I would quickly check to see if Northwestern offered it.

In fifth grade I realized I was a strong writer and really enjoyed it. My teachers and parents told me I should pursue writing, specifically journalism. Luckily, I did not have to discontinue my passion for purple, because Northwestern has one of the top journalism programs in the country.

Does Northwestern offer a journalism program? Check. Does Northwestern offer marketing? Check. Does Northwestern offer research opportunities? Check. Does Northwestern offer competitive cheerleading? No. Am I torn up about this? Nope.

When I went on the official college visit the summer before my junior year I was amazed to learn that Northwestern was a place where students went there because they wanted to learn. It wasnt the type of place I was used to, where everybody complains about school, whereas deep down I love going to school and learning.

When it comes down to it, I want to attend a school where my fellow students not only want to learn but also want to have fun. I want to have intellectual conversations with my friends and then go paint the rock before heading into Evanston for dinner at Daves Italian Kitchen. I want to be on the sidelines with the sprit squad that cheers the Wildcats to its first title in the Legends Division. I want to cheer for my fellow students in Medill. I will be cheering for the Integrated Marketing Communications program. I will be cheering for the 30-hour dance marathon. Its not the uniform or the title of cheerleader that makes me want to go to Northwestern. Its the fact that Northwestern offers so much that I am passionate about, so much that I want to cheer on to victory.
