Cromwell, T&W and honors

I'm going to be an honors freshman at TCNJ this year. Since they put me into an honors FSP, does that mean I'm automatically going to be in Cromwell?

And is Cromwell as bad as they say it is? I hear that it's a lot less fun there and that it's less social than Travers or Wolfe. Is my 4 years at TCNJ going to be ruined if I get into Cromwell or is it not that big of a deal?

I’ll also be a freshman honors student and also chose to take an honors fsp. From what I understand yes, all the honors freshmen are housed in cromwell. However, I have heard stories of honors students who were in cromwell but not all of their roommates were in the honors program.

I’ve heard cromwell is much quieter than the towers but as far as the social life goes I can’t tell you much. Obviously, there are less freshmen in cromwell but that does not guarantee you won’t have any fun. I highly doubt your four years will be “ruined” by being in cromwell. You’ll have five suite mates and you’ll meet tons of people in your classes or around campus, and remember you’d only be there for a year.

Hey RK320 and Hazel,

I am a recent TCNJ graduate (Class of ’09!!) and had the pleasure of spending two fun-filled semesters in Cromwell Hall. Although the building can (at times) be quieter than places like TW, your experience at Cromwell is really what you make of it. I personally loved the suite setup, because it allowed for greater interaction with your neighbors, and gave a more family-type feel to dorm living. My freshman floor consisted of an amazing collection of people, with many of my floormates making up my core group of friends today. Everyone on the floor was inseparable, playing poker most nights until 2 AM, watching movies, and pretty much living in each others rooms 24/7. In no way would I consider my time at the college ruined as a result of dorming in Cromwell, and if I could do it all over again, I would choose to live there in a heartbeat.

Honestly, it seems to me the only students really bashing Cromwell are the ones that lived in TW and didn’t experience it first hand. Wherever you end up dorming, just make the most of it, because the four years go by very quickly. Good luck and study hard!

Hey dannj24 thanks for the advice!

My D will not be in the honors program, but she would prefer the quieter, suite-type dorms at Cromwell. Do students request where they would like to live? Would she be able to request Cromwell over TW?

Unfortunately I don’t think you have a choice in the matter- I know you couldn’t state your preference on the housing app. However, I am fairly certain it is not just the honors freshmen who are housed in cromwell so she still may have a chance. I"m sure you could also call the school and inquire.

I second dannj24’s comments! I also lived in Cromwell my freshman year and had a great experience! I think the suite setup in Cromwell, where you share a bathroom with only 2 other rooms, is a little better than having a communal bathroom in the Towers, and you will still make a lot of friends and have a great time. TCNJ does a wonderful job with their First Year Experience, and I also admit that most of my friends today (I’m a rising senior) are from my freshman floor.

I’m in a quad in Travers, anyone have any experience with that?

I’m in Cromwell so no, no quad experience here…although i find it a little funny that so far none of my suitemates have the same fsp as me and I can’t find anyone who’s in it!
