Cross-Applicant Schools

Just out of curiosity, I'd like to know what other schools people who go to Tufts/are considering Tufts apply to. So, if you're a current Tufts student or alumnus, 1) where did you apply and 2) where did you get in? If you're applying to Tufts, what other schools are you considering, and if you got into them all, where would you go?

Here's my list:

Applied to:
-Tufts
-Northwestern
-Johns Hopkins
-Georgetown
-BU
-Wellesley
-NYU
-Dartmouth

Got into:
-All of the above

Went to:
-Tufts

Why did I pick that school?
-top-notch IR/PoliSci
-generally very good liberal arts
-civic engagement factor

Got into, didn't choose:
1. NYU-Stern
2. William and Mary
3. Rutgers (lol)

Waitlisted:
4. Dartmouth
5. Columbia

Rejected:
6. Penn (after being deferred ED)
7. Cornell
8. Georgetown-SFS
9. Yale

Chose:
10. Tufts!

Lolabelle,
I am not buying what you are selling. You turned down Dartmouth, among others, to go to Tufts???? Who really chooses to go there if they have other choices?

There's a reason Princeton Review lists Tufts as having the happiest students, and it's not prestige. ;)

Tufts over Middlebury

Smartguy,

I guess you'd be surprised. You specifically pointed out my picking Tufts over Dartmouth as nonsensical, but it made a whole lot of sense to me. Tufts has better IR/PoliSci, which was very likely to be my major (and it did end up being one of my two majors), and I didn't like the whole out in the middle of New Hampshire feel of Dartmouth when I visited.

Different people pick certain schools for different reasons. For example, I know a kid here who got into Princeton but chose Tufts because of the IR undergraduate program. I also know kids who picked BU (a safety-school for the average Tufts student) over Tufts because of a special fast-track program they have there.

Most of your posts on CC are somewhat negative so I won't take your comments too seriously.

-LB

Applied to:
- Northwestern
- Penn (Liberal Arts)
- Georgetown (SFS)
- BU
- NYU
- Duke
- Brown
- Wesleyan
- Swarthmore

Accepted:
- all except a waitlist at Brown and Duke

Picked:
- Georgetown, but then transferred to Tufts after my freshman year (the SFS kids there were not as smart or interesting as I had originally anticipated; I've had better luck with the Jumbos!)
- Like LolaBelle, I wanted a good IR program so itw as basically down to Tufts and Georgetown the first time around but since I'm from Boston I thought it'd be nice to get away... I was wrong. Also, DC doesn't have Anna's Taqueria.

I should have said I applied EA to Harvard but was also waitlisted and then waitlisted again.

What was wrong with the SFS program? Wasn't it supposed to be wonderful? :(

I personally find the IR program at Tufts to be far superior than the course trajectory at Gtown-SFS I was following. I've also had more contact with professors and fellowship/research opportunities here. The program there is still great, though, my main reason for transferring was the quality of my peers -- I didn't find them to be very interesting or friendly.

Tufts gets 1 in 5 MIT-Tufts x-admits. Apparently, students cite the smaller classes and friendliness towards women.

How did you get the x-admit data? Isn't that usually protected in the bowels of the admissions department?

Eh, probably. See PM.
