Cross Country/Track&Field Recruitment

I just finished up my Junior year of high school and along with it my 3rd year of distance running in high school. I run cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.

I am male who is trying to find a college that fits me academically and athletically.

Personal Bests:
One Mile- 4:29
Two Mile- 9:51
XC 5K- 16:20

Academics:
ACT Composite Score: 32
SAT 2 Bio: 750
SAT 2 World History: 720
Weighted GPA: 96.1 out of 100

I have no preference for major, preferably East Coast. I want to go to a reputable school where I won't be the best on the team.

If you have any suggestions on a college, it would help me so much. Any tricks of the college recruiting process would help as well. Respond to my post and I'll help you with yours if you have one.

For starters, your academics are great - congratulations. As a recruited athlete, your scores and grades would allow you to be admitted anywhere. So the question is, where do your times fit? Do you want D1 or D3? Ivy milers are closer to the sub- 4:15 range. You might be a better fit in the Patriot League, NESCAC (D3) or Centennial (D3)

The real issue right now, however, is that recruiting is well under way for your class. You should make some calls and email some head coaches of the schools that interest you. D1 schools can start calling you 7/1 - but you should send an introductory email now to let them know your interest and give them your times and test scores.

I have visited with coaches at Davidson, Colgate, Lafayette, and Emory. I have also emailed several other coaches. I feel like a good fit would be Bucknell since it is a good school and the team is competitive. I sent an email to the coach with my times and academics but I have not gotten a response. I plan on visiting this summer, if a coach doesn’t respond then what is my best course of action? Send a letter, email an assistant coach? or wait it out until 7/1 to see if something happens?

Don’t worry too much if you haven’t heard back yet. This is about the only time of the year (after championships and before 7/1) that college track coaches can take any time off. Contact them again in July and maybe think about putting a few more schools in the mix.

Put together a profile on yourself that includes athletic and academics.
Email the coaches to all colleges that you are interested in. Just go to the school athletic website and you can get the phone number and email address of the xc/track coach.
Your times are D1 you are Patriot league and Colonial League level to get some athletic aid in my opinion. Not at ACC level but if you continue to improve ya never know. Doesn’t mean you can’t go run for an ACC team, you just may not get any athletic money for it.
Every school has different budgets and I don’t know of many colleges that are fully funded in xc/track.
Check out NCSA website and put up a free profile. You will get emails from coaches thru it. You can also pay for the service for more capabilities. Its a great website/service. They even have listings of coaches looking for athletes that you can apply for like a job.
