Cross Country & Track

Does anyone know which colleges on the east coast and in the midwest are known for their cross country or track teams?

Men's or Women's?

In general, Arkansas is a perennial national champion. Other progams that tend to be strong year in and year out: Villanova, Providence, Georgetown, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Michigan, Wisconsin. Indiana, Texas, Minnesota, and I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

The only reason I post on these boards are for these threads.

What events are you looking to run in college? Arkansas is THE track and field if you want to look to succeed (i.e. - go to the Olympics) in your sport. As the poster above me mentioned, as far as X.C. goes, Michigan and Wisconsin always bring in great recruits. Dartmouth's distance squad isn't too bad either, and the people UPenn is bringing in this year are phenomenal. Three of my good friends signed there early (1:55.31i 800m guy, 1:52.17 / 2:27 (1000m) / 4:12 mile guy / 18'8.5" long jump girl).

On the track side, Clemson and Florida are the powerhouses on the east coast. Oral Roberts is the powerhouse in the midwest.

EDIT: American University and Liberty are also distance/XC powerhouses, not so great on the track, though.

Williams is always strong in DIII- with great academics. Cornell has a great coach and he is building a good program (RoJo from letsrun.com)

Hey, E, who did Penn get with the 4:12 mile? Oh- is that BScotty? I was a little confused by your string of times.

Haha, yeah, that's Scotland. I might as well name names since they're accepted and signed.
How are your academics? There's a lot of good running schools that aren't too hot academically, but if track is your thing then your options open up like crazy.

Wisconsin had the winner of the NCAA CC and screwed up and finished 2nd as a team. Won NCAA Indoor track too.

Duke, Villanova, Arkansas. If interested in very good schools with lower level track programs-Williams, Holy Cross, and Bowdoin.

Correction, UW won Big 10 indoors and third in NCAA's.

You can get lots of good information regarding college track from the website www.trackshark.com

That's my life.

Collegeconfidential, Dyestat, Letsrun.com = my life.

Wisconsin was and/or still is the #1 CC team in the nation.. I know cuz my friend got a full ride there for CC

****, dude, this year? Wisconsin keeps bringing in amazing recruits.

yea my friend was state champion of california this year for cross country

arkansas is getting a nasty recruiting class this year

Just got a call like an hour ago from my buddy Brian Gagnon. He signed on with UConn earlier tonight, making them one of the best mid-distance schools in the country. He ran 1:52.55 earlier this year - indoors - 3rd at NSIC (2nd American finisher), and joins Logan Jones and Joel Legare - two 1:48.xx 800 runners. Gagnon should run about 1:50 outdoors. I don't think any other team, not even Arkansas, is that deep in the 800m.
