Cross-Country

Okay how much is this friend training a week? How many miles a day? I'm gonna try to make it at 5 minutes..if I don't ..I don't. But this time I'm actually dedicated and I'm a good runner..and it's not like I'm overly obese or out of shape or something. Plus I won't have much to do this summer, so it's like a whole 16 hour free day. That's a lot of time in one day..especially since I won't have much to do..cept maybe a summer program or a job or something.

I would suggest that you find a coach for the summer. There are a lot of good programs. That would help you structure your training so that you don't get injured or focus on the wrong kind of workouts. You need a mix of distance and speed work.

Sarorah ... good luck with your training plan ... I think you're received a lot of good advice so far. The one thing I would add is please tdo not get hung up on reaching a particular time ... especially as a new runner you really do not know your true potential ... focus on training consistently and smart and reaching your potential.

I ran the mile in HS and was pretty good ... after a couple 3000 mile years and a ton of speed work on the track I was a all-state miler (ran in the mid 4:20s). That was a combination of hard work and natural talent ... I had team mates who worked as hard or harder and never beat my times from my sophomore year ... going the other way, Jim Ryan (the best miler ever from the US), ran faster than I ever have the first time he ever ran a timed mile as a sophomore in HS after a couple of weeks of training (he had a tad more natural talent than I).

Like anything else challenge yourself to do the best you can ... however that stacks up against everyone else.

wow, good luck getting a 5 minute mile in Cross Country. Getting a 5 minute mile in track would still get you a place in State (Ohio).

Good luck

This kid runs between 5 and 9 miles a day for track, more for cross country. Mixed in with speed work and hills.

Again, thanks for the advice people. :) I'll try to do the best I can.

more advice...run with people and compete with each other.

Yeah, that's great advice. But I live in a rural area, and many people here are obese and don't like to run. =

When the season's over, when do you guys run? I'm doing it mornings before school starts and it's sooo cold!

Holy crap..in the mornings?? I hardly run outside now cuz it's soo cold and it's always raining freezing rain..run around the house or on a treadmill. You can change the incline and speed as much as you want..just until the weather warms up a bit. Cuz you'll probably get sick running out in that cold..and rain..:(

I just run after school. I'll run unless it's under 10 out. You warm up fast enough, just wear a layer, hat and gloves. I've got a nice track warm-up suit. If it's icy out, I'll run on my treadmill.

I wear warm-up clothes also... Plus I'm in Southern Cali so no severe weather. Shame I haven't been running for the past couple days cuz of rain and I keep telling myself... it's muddy, I might trip. ... Ok I'm sufficiently motivated to start running again.

^^ WELL THIS JUST MADE MY DAY :)
YOU NEVER TOLD ME ABOUT THIS
are you still training for it?

oh . . well
