I'm looking at the times for the cross country team, and I'm starting to feel kind of hopeless. Is there any way to be on the team and train, even you don't get to compete until later (sort of like hs). my 3-mile pr is 15:33 if that's helpful.

you probably won't get on with that time. there's limited space and everything so they're not going to let people in unless they think they have potential to go far. but if you really want to be on the team, try talking to the coach.

Hey, DDRFreak, I talked to a few guys on the team about the same thing. Obvs XC season is over now, but as of early October if you could keep pace with the team on all the runs, he'd let you in - prob about 5:40-5:50 pace on 10-12 milers'd be what shape you'd need to be in. Which, with your PR, sounds fairly reasonable.

Last year was a nightmare for walk-ons, given the number of recruits, but you might have a shot this year.
You never know until you try - best thing to do is contact the coach!
