Hi,
I am going to be a senior this year and I am hoping to get recruited or walk on for a college track team.
My goal times for the season are:
5k- 19:30
800- 2:20
400- low 59
These times are all at high elevation (roughly 6000 ft) if that makes a difference
My weekly mileage is low in comparison to most runners, around 22-27 a week.
No major injuries or health concerns
If I hit these times, would running (even as a walk on) for a school such as Dartmouth be possible? I am planning on applying to Dartmouth on early admission. I am new to the recruitment process and my coaches have not been very helpful, so any advice is greatly appreciated!! Thank you so much!

Hey falconrunner - your times might not quite be there for D1 track recruiting. Dartmouth women are closer to the 55 / 2:10 range in the 400 and 800. The fact that you’re accomplishing those times with low training miles does indicate that you have good upside potential, but probably not at a recruitable point right now. But go ahead and fire off an email - it can’t hurt.

Thanks for your answer! That’s about what I was expecting to hear. Where did you find information about times? I have been referring to team’s Milesplit pages, but if anyone could share a better website I would really appreciate it!

Are you make or female?

Female

these may help … the times for male distance runners are in the hunt of being correct … can’t speak to the women’s mid-distance times … http://www.ncsasports.org/recruiting-tools/college-track-field-scholarship-standards-recruiting/womens-track-recruiting-guidelines A couple comments.

More than likely Dartmouth allows walk-ons … and probably actually needs walk-ons to fill out their roster … so not being recruited does not mean you can not run at Dartmouth if you get in. The Dartmouth coach will likely give you guidance if walking-on might work if you are not recruited.

If Dartmouth does not work out for you then you may want to look at the NESCAC schools … they are D3 and all those schools would probably really like you to have on their teams … and many of them are similar to Dartmouth in many ways (with smaller student populations)

Thanks for the link! I am still a bit confused on the whole process, is it best to email the Dartmouth coaches now or should I wait and see if I am actually admitted to the school first?

Email them now with your times and profile.

Ok thank you so much for the advice!
