When I toured Wellesley, I believe was told about opportunities to take classes at MIT for engineering, Babson for economics, and Brandeis for political science. Is it possible to register at these schools for any classes that are not offered at Wellesley, even if they don't fit in those categories? I'd be very interested in taking some journalism classes at Brandeis.

No-you can cross-register for any classes. They probably mentioned those because those are departments those schools are strong in.

Awesome--thanks!

What eba12 said. I know some students who are taking courses at MIT that are most certainly offered at Wellesley (they happen to dislike the prof who is teaching it this semester.)
I know that in the math department, certain MIT courses won't count toward a major (like the non-proofs based linear algebra), but there's nothing stopping you from taking the courses there.
I'll be doing an MIT class for the first time myself next semester.

Too bad--I absolutely LOVE non-proofs based linear algebra!

..well, okay, that was a lie. :)

I'm definitely interested though in maybe creating my own major. Wellesley has a few media/communications courses through the sociology department and it would be nice to combine those with some English, linguistics, and a few journalism classes at Brandeis because I want to go into editing for news or opinion publications.
