Hey guys, the deadline for postmarking TASP applications was/is today. This is the Telluride Association Summer Program. To be invited to apply, you have to be in the top 1% for your state (PSAT scores). 20% of all applicants get interviewed. 10% of all applicants get in. Apparently it is one of the 2 most prestigious summer programs...of all (RSI at MIT is the other).

I have very amazing SAT II scores, pretty damn good SAT I scores (last time I took it I got a 1520; I took it again two days ago and am hoping for a better math score). My grades are fairly low (B+/A- average with a C freshman year) but I take tough courses at a hugely competitive, difficult and elite private high school. My recs and essays will be fabulous, my extracurrics only average. Now I'm wondering...

Say I were to get into TASP (and I understand this is a total shot in the dark) how much would it help? Would it push me over the edge at the huge name schools (HYP)? Or not so much?

Thanks.

I think it's a little less prestigous than RSI, but I'm not sure of how much it helps in relation to RSI which everyone knows is a boost

You seem to not be that passionate about the program at all. It looks to me as if you're rating the program because of its prestige. Don't yell, just my observation. BTW, Yes, TASP will push you over the edge in HYP, almost literally guarenteeing you admissions.

I don't think he's necesarily not passionate, he's obviously a very new poster, and maybe he just wanted to know if it would help. I wouldn't jump to conclusions, though you could very well be right

jthecanadian, actually I'm very passionate about it and want to do it a lot, but I didn't think to mention that because it wasn't really relevant to my question. Also, getting my hopes up is probably not a good idea, seeing as I only have a 10% chance of getting in.

Don't yell? Sorry, I didn't think I was yelling, but if I was, I apologize.

Did you do TASP? If so, you are very lucky, and tell me if you liked it... anyway thanks.

No man, it's my bad. I mean, don't yell at me because of my rather harsh criticism. My criticism nonetheless :D. Anyways man, now that you've mentioned it, welcome aboard. I'm actually sending out my envelope today. And no I haven't applied before, but I do have some hopes for this TASP thing. The 10% is merely a statistic. To some, that 10% could be 100% or 50%. Depends on how their perspective is portrayed...not how others' perspectives are portrayed on their papers. I wish the best of luck to you claret.

By the way, I love this kind of essay writing. I'm like the Simon Cowell of essays, if I see something utterly disgraceful (and there's lots of that in school) I'll have this tendency to call it a piece of crap. Essay is an art, not an application thingamagic. claret, I think you know that already.

Haha...I know that already from personal experince =P
