Crunch Time: Have to make a Decision

Okay so I'm an OOS from New York and I have to make a decision quickly. I'm stuck between Michigan and UNC- Chapel Hill. I'm an aspiring writer (novelist) so evaluating any specific program in either schools wouldn't be beneficial. I applied to both Arts and Sciences schools so I could take an array of courses. As of now I don't know which way to go. The battle looks like this:

North vs. South
Brutal Winters vs. Overwhelming heat
Closer to Ivy vs. fairly top school
Immense School Pride (equal)
Big Football vs. Big Basketball
Northern or Southern lifestyle
Extremely reputable vs. Highly recognized
Very strong Academia (Michigan is a bit better)
Blue and Gold vs. Baby Blue and White (yeah, I'm actually considering that)

Just to hear a few opinions with some good reasoning, what do you guys think?

You have two really good choices. Either one has the potential to be a really great choice. UNC and UM are two great universities (in their own ways, as you have listed) but this isn't going to be a situation where at the end someone is going to say "why the heck did you choose that one!?!"

Remember this as you agonize. It is a tough choice, no doubt --- but you'll be good in either case.

So chill out, think this thing through clearly (as you're doing), make a choice, and make the best of it. You'll be in good shape in the end.

We can decide for ourselves on those topics what is better for us but ultimately you are the one who has the only say that matters. Some of us can be very used to the brutal winters and can go and tell you that they are easily manageable but if you dislike the cold, we can't tell you that it'll be OK. Another group of us may say Southern lifestyle is better while you are leaning slightly toward Northern...it's really what YOU feel most comfortable in and we can't tell you which is better because it is purely opinion and I doubt any of us have the same exact mind as you. As the previous poster said, both are outstanding universities so just choose whichever you feel more comfortable in because you really can't go wrong.

"Blue and Gold"? Dude, if you are going to chose Michigan, get the school colors right. Maize and Blue.

At any rate, it is a very tough decisions. Let us know what you decide.
