Hi! I’m an international student who wants to select the suitable graduate accounting program for myself. I have got four admissions from Suffolk University with $36200, University of Texas at Dallas with in-state tuition plus $1000, Drexel University and DePaul University.

My objective is to get a job upon graduation. Drexel’s accounting program is a one-year program which I think is too short and stressful to study and find a job. The others are two-year program.

Thank you very much!

The short answer, is to choose the one that is most likely to get you a job in your home country after you graduate. If you have an F-1 (student) visa, you are allowed a one year extension to get practical training (OPT), but after that if you have not found a sponsor for an H-1B (work) visa, you will have to leave. Most people do not find H-1B sponsors.

It is a good idea for you to contact the career centers at each of these universities, and ask about job placement for international students who graduate from your program. They should be able to tell you how many find good sponsors for their OPT, and whether or not any of them are successful at finding employers who are able to get them an H-1B.

You also have to consider the cost of these programs. After you subtract any scholarship money, what is your Cost of Attendance (COA)? That is how much money you will need to have in order to get your student visa.

Hi! Happymomof1, Thank you for providing me the way to get information about each university’s job placement for international student.

I know H-1B sponsor is difficult to find. You mentioned the cost of attendance, so I guess this is an important factor for choosing a graduate accounting program. Could you please give me other factors about how to choose a suitable accounting program?

Really that is about it. Career/Grad School placement and cost.

If those are equal, then you can take into account other things that matter to you like the weather, the part of the country, or what the buildings look like.
