So my guidance counselor told me that Pomona asked for my first quarter grades on thursday, 12/13, when we had a snow day, so she couldn't reply until today, when she faxed them in first thing in the morning. My question: does this automatically mean deferral or rejection? I know they started sending out letters 12/12, 12/13, but the person said some were sent then, the majority will be sent out today. I doubt they'll make a decision the same day they send my letter out (if i'm accepted, that is). This pretty much automatically means a deferral, right?

It's kind of frustrating; everyone was telling me great shot, and they'd be suprrised if i didnt get in, but here i am..... thanks for the support guys... i guess pomona just didn't look upon me as favourably

I really don't know about the timing. However, my experience with Pomona has been that they're very understanding with that sort of thing. If you're a strong candidate, I bet they'll admit you without the quarter grades. Try to relax (I know it's hard)

don't feel too bad- i got my deferral in the mail today so they don't send one regular and one priority if that makes you feel any better

but also the deferral letter gives you great hope that if you make improvements you will be accepted:

Dear ____,
Admissions Committee has completed a thorough and careful review of your Early Decision Application...decided to defer a final decision on your candidacy until spring when we review the entire Regular Decision Applicant pool

i think you'll be okay though... you'll know soon enough. i am surprisingly not upset, just determined to get in now lol. if i can convince my dad to let me travel to a third world country, i can convince the adcoms to admit me haha

gettinready14, that certainly is cryptic. If they were going to defer/reject you, why would they frantically be looking for your first quarter grades? If they were going to accept you, why so late?

I know that they asked my for first quarter grades, but I got deferred. I think it's a good sign that you're on the table, but maybe they're just not sure. Don't lose hope!

has anybody else not yet gotten his decision in the mail yet? I haven't gotten mine yet, which is making me more and more confident that i was deferred.

They asked for your first quarter grades last minute. Maybe getting your decision late is not necessarily a bad thing. They need time to receive/act on those?
