Crystal Ball question

Do you think it hurts a kids chance at a BFA program if they let the school know they would also be willing to go into their auditioned BA as an alternative?

I can’t see why it would. It demonstrates a commitment to the school, which a lot of them seem to value.

I would suggest that you do a little research and then have a conversation (in person or via e-mail) with a faculty member or admissions person. At some schools, I know for sure that they discourage applicants from considering the BA as a back-up plan to the BFA; they want kids in the BA who really want to be there and won’t spend 4 years wishing they’d auditioned into the BFA. There are good reasons to want a BA program, obviously. Just…proceed with caution.

I do know someone who is convinced that this strategy kept them out of USC. Of course, there’s no telling if they are correct. Echoing, “Proceed with caution.”

It always worried me. Like, “Oh she’s willing to do our BA, so we’ll put her there and move someone into BFA.” That was my concern so I decided against it. It really is a struggle if a school is your favorite, and their BA is also auditioned. Hmm… I understand your question, but I guess I’m not able to really help. :S
