I'm an incoming CS freshmen. I'm planning on taking the the proficiency test for CS 125 to place out of it, which would put me in CS 173 - but now I'm debating whether or not I should try to place out of that, too. I looked at some of the quizes and some of the early stuff seems really simple (like one the quiz questions asked you to compose two functions....). Some of the later stuff, I didn't know, but I feel like it's stuff I could kind of learn if I tried over the summer. Would it be worth it to try that and get into CS 225 or 231 so I'm not bored starting out, or should I just stick with 173 and have a potentially easy course as I ease into college life?

I'm also in a similar situation with math. AP Calc BC credit will get me into Calc III, but I technically took a multivar course this year in high school. I'd need to brush up a bit, since more than just multi was covered, but I think it'd be possible to place into Math 415. So same question for that - should I?
