CS 3 Cancelled? New CS 3L class?

It looks like CS 3S has been cancelled:
<a href="http://sis.berkeley.edu/OSOC/osoc?p_term=FL&p_classif=--+Choose+a+Course+Classification+--&p_deptname=Computer+Science&p_presuf=--+Choose+a+Course+Prefix%2FSuffix+--&p_dept=&p_course=3&p_title=&p_instr=&p_exam=&p_ccn=&p_day=&p_hour=&p_bldg=&p_units=&p_restr=&p_info=&p_updt=&x=56&y=11%5B/url%5D">http://sis.berkeley.edu/OSOC/osoc?p_term=FL&p_classif=--+Choose+a+Course+Classification+--&p_deptname=Computer+Science&p_presuf=--+Choose+a+Course+Prefix%2FSuffix+--&p_dept=&p_course=3&p_title=&p_instr=&p_exam=&p_ccn=&p_day=&p_hour=&p_bldg=&p_units=&p_restr=&p_info=&p_updt=&x=56&y=11</a></p>

What's left is something called CS 3L (though it is currently not open...). Does anybody know what the differences between the two are? All I can see is that 3L doesn't have any discussions and there are 6 hours of labs per week (O_O). I just read that 3S was apparently the self-paced one, but I thought the one at the bottom of the list entitled "SLF" was the self-paced class?

This sucks as this screws up my entire schedule :(

CS 3L is basically just CS 3 except instead of a lot time in the lecture hall, you spend a lot more time actually programming at Hearst Annex. This gives you more time to get practical experience.

Nothing wrong with getting more practical experience, but it just sucks for me because I've enrolled in courses/labs/discussions that would have fit to the other CS 3 class, but now that they suddenly cancelled it, I'm stuck with a horrible schedule in which I have 6 hours of class in a row on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The only way to fix it would be to switch Math 1B discussion sections, but ALL of them are full and I'm afraid of losing my spot (in that I am already secured/enrolled with a discussion section, and if I switch somebody could take my old spot while I'm on the wait list, and I might not get into the discussion) if I decide to get on the wait list for a different section.

I'd email your Math 53 professor (who will probably forward you to the head GSI or someone in charge of scheduling), or better yet, find out who your head GSI is and email him/her directly. Explain your situation (briefly) and figure out if you can be switched into another discussion section.

I'm Math 1B, actually.

I'm not sure how I could find out who my GSI is. Is the GSi the person that would likely be in the instructor in the Math 1B Discussion sections (unfortunately nobody is listed at the moment for the instructor on schedule.berkeley.edu)? Also, I'm not sure if having 6 hours of class back to back is a legitimate complaint/grounding to have my personally moved into a section?

An important thing to consider is whether or not I'd be able to take the course if I decide to switch sections. All the sections are full right now, so if I put myself on the wait list for the GSI to consider moving me when a space fills up, I have to take the risk that the GSI doesn't move me or a space doesn't open up and I lose my spot in the other discussion section (very likely considering how more weeks of CalSO are left, and how the last group of engineering students is going tomorrow), resulting in not being able to take the course (I can't take the other professor because his lecture time slot interferes with the time slot of my Physics 7A lecture).

Sorry about confusing the course.

I'd send an email to the professor (mentioning that you understand that he might not deal with these matters, and would appreciate being directed to the person who does), briefly explaining when you enrolled in the course and that a change in the schedule of another course has made yours impractical. Ask if there is any way to obtain a spot in the other section, or a high place on the waiting list for it (but make sure they don't switch you to that section's waiting list before telling you the likelihood of getting in). Say that your primary concern is losing the spot you already have in your section, because you absolutely need to take the course this semester.

Okay, I sent the e-mail. I hope it works...

He told me that he doesn't deal with enrollment and he just suggested that I get on the wait list and then talk to the head TA in the Fall, and maybe I'll get in.

Bleh :(

Well that's lame :-.
