Proud of my son for being accepted to Bing and Watson school. He is looking at Computer Science, but of course there are some other offers on the table. He’d rather be in NYC and he’s also accepted at NYU (NYC not Tandon/Brooklyn), Fordham, and Manhattan for CS. Also accepted to Buffalo, Albany but wait listed at Stony Brook. Buffalo is just too far away, although it may have a better program than Bing, it’s off the table.
Obviously Bing is a great choice with a very strong program and very affordable. NYU and Fordham would both be around 50K per year after aid. Manhattan is a nice small school in the Bronx, but not very well known. With NYU, since he would only be in the college of arts & sciences and not engineering, he’d finish with a BA. But NYU has great name recognition and tons of internships and jobs offers after graduation.
So some questions about Bing CS program.
- Any options to explore game programming?
- How’s the internships, are a lot of the NYC financial and fintech companies recruiting?
- How big are the freshman and sophomore class sizes for required courses like Calculus, Physics, etc.
- Would you consider it a teaching school, i,e, are professors engaged with students and do they care about their success?
- What if you can’t finish the program or find it too difficult? Where else can you go at Bing?
