Hi,

I have to choose between a 3 years program in computer science or a 2 years general program which includes mathematics. If I pick the general one, I will have only 1 or 2 courses of computer science (prog. I and II). I would rather do 2 years, right now I'm at my first year and have to choose if I change before 1st of November. I want to do or computer science, or software engineering at McGill. The general program does not qualify me for a BS, only a BA, (minor and major in CS).

Do you think the pre-cs program will help get a BS ? What would you do if you were me ?

Thanks for the help :)

Oh and these programs are at community college. In Quebec after high school, we do 2 or 3 years before uni.

Yes, I am indeed in CEGEP. I looked at everything on McGill website, I will email them but the last time I sent them a message, it’s was a very simple question and it took 5 weeks to get an answer, which declined to respond to my question.

I didn’t see that handbook though, it’s great thanks for the post !

I still haven’t found what to do and the deadline is approaching :S

Anymore advice ?

The normal pathway into a BSc/BEng in Quebec is the 2 year Pure & Applied Sciences DEC.

Do NOT do the 3 year program. Some schools (i.e. ETS) specialize in taking students with 3 year DECs, McGill does not.

What you need to make sure is that you do Calculus 1 + 2, Linear Algebra and your basic science classes (2 chemistry, 3 physics).

You do not need to take any CS classes in CEGEP, McGill will NOT credit them anyway. They will not do you any good.

Thanks a lot ! That’s I was looking for ! I will do the BA in CS since I do not have high school chemistry, only physics but anyway I can’t stand natural sciences lol. But I am doing all these maths classes.

Thanks again !
