I just got accepted to UCSB on waitlist. However, I have already SIR CSLB prior to 5/1. My major is biology, with a career goal of becoming a physical therapist. I know many readers on this site would think this should be an easy decision and UCSB is the way to go. However, my feeling is that once I SIR CSLB, I felt committed and have convinced myself that this is the right school for me. I moved on and plans were made until the acceptance notice from UCSB yesterday. My parents strongly encourage me to consider UCSB and we plan to visit UCSB this week. I didn't visit UCSB earlier because I didn't think I would get admitted.

Anyway, I very confuse now and may be things will clear up once I toured UCSB this week. I would appreciate if you could provide comments on why I should come to UCSB. Thanks.

IMO. Definitely UCSB. It has a more prestigious reputation overall and is a great place to spend 4 years. If you decide to go to grad school, I would think it has more of an academic advantage than CSLB. If you have not visited, you really should. It is gorgeous. Do not dismiss it because you feel guilty. You will open a spot for someone else who really wants to go to Long Beach.

My son was accepted from the waitlist over the weekend also. He had committed to Cal Poly SLO which has a great business school and he felt conflicted at first too. He will be studying economics and then getting an MBA instead of going to an undergrad business school. We are visiting on Friday. You could take a trip up there over the weekend.

He felt badly also b/c he has committed, but we are switching gears and now he is super happy. My husband was a biology major at UCSB has always talked very fondly about his undergrad days there and what a great education he received. He went on to med school. I spoke to housing this morning and they randomly assign housing, so it is not first come first serve.

Thank you SDMom56 for your comment…I really appreciate you sharing your family experience with me regarding UCSB. I plan to visit UCSB this week and I’m sure after the visit and with further research, the decision to go to UCSB will be clear. Again, thank you.

I was accepted from the WL at UCSB and I am so psyched!

I felt bad that I had to tell the other school that I was not coming, but I know that another student who had been on their WL was going to be really happy!

I am going up to visit on Friday, but I have already said Yes. I want to see the dorms before I select my preferences.

UCSB 100%, it has a great social life as well as great academics, it a UC!

Heard that since it is SOOO CROWDED at CSULB, it would take some kids 6 years to finish your undergrad.

go to UCSB to be on the safe side. . .

Dude are you kidding. Go to UCSB unless you have a full ride or something at Long Beach. UCSB is a far better school academically and has a much better location. That’s an easy decision.

@norris212 - do you think the $10,000-$20,000 difference per year at ucsb is worth it? i’m trying to convince my parents to let me go to a UC.

^ Yes, it is worth it.

Well I can’t say if it is or isn’t since I’m not there yet… But I myself am definitely paying the extra. The degree from a UC would probably pay off in the long run and I’m sure you would have a better college experience. Maybe your money situation could sway you towards a csu though. But yea I think it’s probably worth it.

Why don’t you just visit the campus and then decide? We can’t tell you which place is better for you, only you can do that. What’s the use of being at UCSB if it doesn’t feel right to you? Just go wherever you feel you’ll get the most out of your college experience, even if it’s at an academically average university(which still isn’t bad).
