CS Major: How competitive is it to land internships?

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>I've been accepted to UCB and will be entering as a freshman this fall. I'm interested in majoring in computer science. How is the competition for landing internships with everyone trying to get into the best firms? Are the majority of CS majors guaranteed at least one internship? What's the GPA cutoff just to make you safe for interviews?</p>

<p>Also, how could I make myself stand out when applying for internships at firms like Google, Microsoft, Cisco, Qualcomm, etc. What activities should I do? </p>

<p>One more question: a friend of mine told me that recent CS majors have been getting paid $70k-$100k straight after graduation (even at inexpensive cities). Is this true? Are these for bachelors degrees or masters? That's a heck of a salary for a 21 year old. </p>

Note, CS will be capped in Spring or Fall 14.

There’s like 300 people in EECS and another 150 in CS, so there’s a lot of competition.

You’re probably asking about top companies? No. </p>
