Hey guys, I need help on deciding between UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine. I am pursuing a BS Computer Science degree.

well idk bout SB but Irvine sent me a comp sci brochure bout their new Informatics and Comp Science school dedicated solely to comp sci instead of being placed in a school of general engineering

UCI (#29) has a stronger CS department than UCSB (#49).

yea i heard cs at uci is really good.

ICS has been separate from Engineering for a long time at UCI. ICS was a stand-alone department until last year, when they were elevated to school status. They got a $20M donation last year from OC Real Estate mogul Donald Bren, so now it's the Donald Bren School of Information & Computer Sciences.

It's really good at UCI, though, especially with all of the hot IT stuff popping up in Orange County.

Wow, thanks for your input. I am still wondering on where to go: UCSB, because Computer Science is in the "COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING" vs. UCI because it has a separate school?

Also the other minor/major issue is about the party school and I do not party that much (well not a fan).

Plus I am Indian American...don't know what to expect at both UCI and UCSB...

Which degree would be more valuable after graduation?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for you valuable help...

uumm....SIR deadline passed....

He's probably a transfer student (we transfers have until June 1st)

I am a transfer student... a confused one...

im_blue: where did you get the ranking for UCI CS dept?
