CS students have so many courses to take. 5 CISP, 5 MATH, 3 PHY, 1 CHEM, 1 ENG, which are just pre-req and not include the igetc. If I plus the igetc, there are totally 24 courses to take!! I have already asked my professor, but he thinks that is normal. Do I need to complete all the igetc? or just part of it? After all I want to get transferred fast.
If you take 5 classes/ semester (which is normal for a full time student), then that is 20 classes at the end of 2 years (4 semesters), if you don’t do Summer’s or winters. Then based on 24 classes, that leaves 4 classes remaining. You could take an extra semester, or take summer school and winter sessions to still finish in 2 years.
BUT while IGETC is 10-11 classes, I would guess that 1 of your math classes, and either a physics or an engineering class can be used to satisfy IGETC Areas 2 and 5A. That would reduce the total number by 2 classes.
It’s not uncommon for CS majors to stay an extra year, so whether it takes you 2 or 3 years then you’re still on track.
Looks like you want to go to UCLA. CS is considered as Engineering in UCLA and the major is currently provided by HSSEA(Engineering College). It’s no surprise that engineering majors have tons of prerequisites.
And no, Engineering students don’t have to complete IGETC. Just two English (Either two compo or 1 Comp/1 Critical thinking), one life science and at least one humanity or social studies (4 courses recommended).

are you a ucla student?
My names gives away which school I attend
Nope.
Read carefully the info and links on this page: http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/glossary/igetc.html
A transfer counselor is generally a better source of advice about this. And the UCs regularly send adcoms to each CC campus; find out when the next one visits your school and meet with them.
The ASSIST pages can also help:
I have sent an email to the ucla office. He said that Engineering students at UCLA have less GE requirements than students in the College of Letters and Science. This may be why you heard that as a computer science student you do not need to complete IGETC. You are not required to do IGETC for engineering. However, since there are 5 different required GE’s for engineering students, anything that you do not complete before transferring will need to be completed here. You should still complete the English courses and at least one non-science GE for admission purposes.
