CS transfer questions about the program( pros and cons) and igetc

Hi,

I’m a CC freshman student who is planning to apply UCSC CS major for next year, but I won’t finish the IGETC. However, I saw the assist cs transfer requirement discourage student to complete IGETC in CC, but I’ve taken two GE classes this semester, so would those two GE classes not count( in the different area)?

  1. Should I finish the whole IGETC or just finish that two area (because I've taken that two courses), would that be helpful for me to stay on track for the 4-year graduate? 1.1 If I don't complete the IGETC with only two GE classes, is it IGETC or nothing?
  2. Would you recommend to go to UCSC for CS major, what are your reasons(pros and cons)?
  3. Do CS transfer normally graduate in two years?
  4. Are there any research opportunities for cs major?
  5. Is it har to transfer to UCSC as CS major?

If you do not complete IGETC before transfer, you will have to complete the GE requirements of the campus/division/major after transfer in order to graduate. Courses taken before or after transfer may be applied to such GE requirements (courses taken at CCs before transfer should be checked on http://www.assist.org to see if they articulate to courses fulfilling GE requirements at the campus/division/major you transfer to).

https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major can give you an idea of transfer admission difficulty based on college GPA. UCSC CS had a middle 50% GPA range of 3.21 to 3.74 and a 45% admit rate.
